2008 Reggae Marathon

The countdown to the 8th edition of Reggae Marathon on December 6th, 2008 has started with the launch of the Burger King/Jamdammers Grand Prix Series on September 10th. The Grand Prix consists of five races -- each in a different parish -- with the Grand Finale at the Burger King 10K in Portmore on November 16th. As co-title sponsor, Burger King has pleged $2m to the 2008 race series.

The 2008 Reggae Marathon will premier, for the first time, a 10K event to complement the marathon and half marathon. All races -- marathon, half marathon and 10K -- will start at 5:15am with the signature honor guard of torches and pulsating beat of Reggae drums. Joints in Motion (JIM) of the Canadian Arthritis Society, will AGAIN make Reggae Marathon one of their winter fundraising events. On the heels of the golden moments in Bejing, excitment will be building to race day!

Quebec City & Panama Marathon

On August 24th, in the full height of Olympic glory, seven Jamdammers completed the Quebec Half-Marathon and Marathon — four in the half and three (virgins) in the full!

The Reggae MarathonThere were engaging stories told — especially by the first time marathoners, who had a warmer-than-usual day in full sun. By all reports, the spectators along the course were decidedly pro-Jamaican. Once they recognized the distinctive Jamaican flags worn by the Jamdammers, we were enthusiastically cheered and showered with congratulations for our country’s outstanding performances at the Olympics. Who said you needed to be in Beijing to feel like a world-class athlete?

Two weeks earlier, three Jamdammers travelled to Panama for the Panama Marathon & Half Marathon. Although a race smaller than the Reggae Marathon, they enjoyed the event, the scenery and the sightseeing.
